Armenia and Türkiye to study restoration of Gyumri-Kars railway

Türkiye and Armenia, following the negotiations of special representatives on the normalization of relations, agreed to conduct necessary technical studies for the restoration and operation of the Gyumri-Kars railway and power transmission line.

As Report informs, this was announced by the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Armenia following the meeting between Serdar Kılıç and Ruben Rubinyan.

"During this meeting, the special representatives confirmed the issues discussed and agreed upon during previous meetings, with the aim of advancing the process of complete normalization of relations between Armenia and Türkiye. In this context, they exchanged views regarding the implementation of the border demarcation agreement reached at the meeting on July 1, 2022. The special representatives agreed to accelerate this process," the foreign ministry's statement notes.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the parties also agreed to make efforts to strengthen cooperation in cultural and academic spheres, in particular by creating scholarship opportunities for students of higher educational institutions and joint restoration of the historic Ani/Silk Road bridge.

Special representatives Kılıç and Rubinyan also agreed to work on increasing the number of flights between the two countries.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the normalization process without any preconditions, the Armenian Foreign Ministry emphasizes.
