EU to agree to Trumps demand to lift tariffs on American cars

The European Commission will this week put forward a proposal to remove tariffs on US car and agricultural imports.

According to Bloomberg, cited by Report, the move is aimed at preventing further trade tensions with US President Donald Trump.

Sources told the outlet that the European Commission, which negotiates trade on behalf of the EU, will also grant preferential tariff rates on certain seafood and agricultural products.

Currently, US tariffs on cars and auto parts from the EU stand at 27.5%. Although Washington and Brussels signed a trade agreement reducing American tariffs on almost all European goods to 15%, Trump has insisted that this will not apply to cars unless legislation is introduced to eliminate industrial and other duties.

Cars remain one of the bloc"s most important export sectors to the US. In 2024 alone, Germany exported new cars and parts worth $34.9 billion to the American market.
