Minister: Number of people entering Azerbaijani universities reaches record 60,000

In Azerbaijan, 60,000 students were admitted to local universities this year, a record number, Azerbaijani Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev said at the Eurasian University Summit in Baku, Report informs.

"In Azerbaijan, the number of students entering local universities has increased annually, reaching 60,000 this year, up from 27,000 [in the early 2000s], which is the highest figure," the minister noted.

He emphasized that the number of Azerbaijani students choosing to study abroad has also increased significantly.

"In a context of global openness, many of those who do not enroll in local universities prefer to continue their education in other countries," Amrullayev said.

He also added that the rapid growth in the number of students with higher education in the country is the result of a conscious choice by young people and a reflection of economic and social changes in society.
