Azerbaijan celebrates Eid al-Adha

Azerbaijan is celebrating Eid al-Adha today.

Report informs that Eid al-Adha begins every year across the Muslim world on the 10th day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah according to the Hijri calendar.

This year, the corresponding date falls on May 27 in the Gregorian calendar.

Eid prayers will be performed in all mosques across the country today.

In Baku, Eid prayers are scheduled for 8:00 a.m. at the Ajdarbay Mosque and 9:00 a.m. at the Tazapir Mosque.

Sacrifices may be made today and tomorrow in connection with the holiday. The sacrifices will be carried out in accordance with Sharia rules, under the supervision of clerics of the Caucasus Muslims Office, at sites specially designated by the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency in Baku and its surrounding areas, as well as in the country's regions.

After Azerbaijan restored its independence, Eid al-Adha began to be marked as a state holiday in the country under the law "On Holidays of the Republic of Azerbaijan," adopted by the Milli Majlis on October 27, 1992.

Under a decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, May 27 and 28 have been designated as Eid al-Adha holidays this year.
