EU, Türkiye to mull economic security, expanded investment cooperation

This week, the EU and Türkiye will discuss the impact of geopolitical tensions on the economy, economic security issues, and prospects for expanding trade and investment cooperation.

According to Report, the discussions will take place as part of the high-level economic dialogue, which will take place in Ankara on July 3–4.

The European side will be represented at the talks by European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity Valdis Dombrovskis, and the Turkish side by Minister of Finance and Treasury Mehmet Şimşek.

Representatives of international financial institutions, including the European Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the Council of Europe Development Bank, as well as business representatives, will also participate in the discussions.

Their discussions will focus on the impact of the latest geopolitical developments on the global, EU and Turkish economies, economic security, and possible areas for deepening bilateral cooperation. The Commissioner will also take part in a session on the engagement of international financial institutions in Türkiye, together with representatives of multilateral development banks, including the European Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the Council of Europe Development Bank.

The High-Level Economic Dialogue will be followed by a business session, which Commissioner Dombrovskis will open jointly with Minister Şimşek. The Commissioner will then participate in a roundtable with businesses and international financial institutions on how to boost Türkiye-EU economic and investment ties.

The upcoming dialogue will be the second since the format was resumed in 2024 as part of Brussels' efforts to restore relations with Ankara.

In recent months, the two sides have intensified high-level contacts, expanding the negotiating agenda to include trade, energy, migration, and security issues amid growing geopolitical uncertainty.
