To date, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline has transported 540 million tons of Azerbaijani oil to global markets, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said at the inaugural Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2025), according to Report.
"So far, the BTC pipeline has delivered 540 million tons of oil from Azerbaijan and 53 million tons from Central Asian countries to global markets. Currently, cooperation with Central Asia is gaining new momentum through joint projects," Shahbazov said.
He emphasized that partnerships in green energy will, for the first time, integrate the energy systems of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan, creating the foundation for the implementation of the first Trans-Caspian Corridor and positioning Central Asia and the South Caucasus as leading regions in the green transition.
"The transport of renewable energy from the Caspian region, which holds significant potential, to Türkiye and European markets via various routes is a priority of Azerbaijan"s modern energy policy," the minister added.
Shahbazov also noted that work is underway on green energy corridor projects connecting Azerbaijan–Georgia–Türkiye–Bulgaria, as well as potential direct routes from Azerbaijan involving Armenia, which would link the South Caucasus with Türkiye, Europe, and Central Asia.
"By 2032, we plan to develop more than six gigawatts of onshore and offshore solar and wind capacity and begin the phased implementation of Caspian–Black Sea green energy corridors to Europe," he emphasized.
Shahbazov recalled that Azerbaijan aims to increase the share of renewable energy to 38% by 2030. "Within the next two years, we will complete the integration of 10 solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of around 2,000 MW and an investment value of $2.7 billion into our energy system. By 2030, we expect to raise the share of renewables in installed capacity to 38%," the minister said, adding that these measures are aimed at strategically strengthening Azerbaijan"s position as a key supplier and transit hub for green energy.
"Currently, measurement and monitoring work is underway in the Caspian Sea to identify zones for offshore power plant construction, and cooperation is ongoing with a number of local and international companies," he concluded.
