Governor: Ganja to be developed for a population of approximately 500,000

According to the new master plan of the city of Ganja approved in March 2026, the city is envisaged to be developed for a population of approximately 500,000 people in the future, the Head of Ganja City Executive Authority Niyazi Bayramov said at an event titled "Cities at the Center of Connectivity: Urban Reconstruction and Regional Cooperation" organized within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, Report informs.

According to him, the plan envisages the construction of new residential areas, phased renovation of existing neighborhoods, and development of residential zones equipped with social infrastructure: "The main goal is to transform Ganja into a modern city with accessible, safe, and sustainable housing conditions for every resident. Ganja is considered both a cradle of science and culture and the western gateway of Azerbaijan, and it is developing rapidly."

The executive head added that the operational lifespan of more than 270 old residential buildings in Ganja has expired: "Some buildings do not even fully meet modern seismic safety standards. High energy losses are observed in old buildings, and the rise in temperatures during summer months creates an additional burden on the energy infrastructure."
