Azerbaijan thanks ICAO for assistance in investigating AZAL plane crash near Aktau

Azerbaijan has expressed gratitude to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for its attention to the investigation into the crash of the Embraer 190 aircraft of AZAL Airlines, which occurred on December 25 last year near Aktau, and for the support provided to Kazakhstan, which is conducting the investigation, Report informs referring to the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport.
The remarks were made at a meeting of the delegation led by Deputy Minister Elmin Mammadov with ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar Gomez and Regional Director of the Organization's Bureau for Europe and the North Atlantic Nicolas Rallo in Bern, Switzerland.
The Azerbaijani side emphasized the importance of conducting the investigation by specialized and experienced expert bodies.
ICAO reminded that a detailed and impartial investigation is one of the key requirements of the Chicago Convention (Appendix No. 13). The organization reaffirmed its commitment to supporting member countries in complying with global aviation security standards.
An agreement was also reached at the meeting to expand cooperation between ICAO, the State Civil Aviation Agency and the aviation industry of Azerbaijan. Baku reiterated its support for the ICAO policy in terms of implementing international standards for flight safety, aviation security and environmental protection.
On December 25, an Embraer aircraft of Azerbaijan Airlines, flying from Baku to Grozny, crashed near the Kazakh city of Aktau. There were 62 passengers on board the plane, including 37 citizens of Azerbaijan, 16 of Russia, 6 of Kazakhstan and 3 of Kyrgyzstan, as well as five crew members. As a result of the accident, 38 people died, 29 people survived, including three children.
