Azerbaijani serviceman killed by landmine in contaminated cemetery area

Azerbaijani serviceman Sayyaf Ahmadov has been killed after stepping on a landmine in a contaminated cemetery zone.

According to Report, which cites a joint statement issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the General Prosecutor's Office, and the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA), the incident occurred in the village of Mirashalli in the Aghdam district.

The victim, identified as Sayyaf Figan oglu Ahmadov, a resident of Baharly village born in 1971, died after a landmine explode in an area of the cemetery that had not yet been cleared of explosive devices.

The Aghdam District Prosecutor"s Office has launched an investigation into the incident.

Ahmadov, a reconnaissance specialist also known by the name "Gizir Xanı," reportedly died on what was formerly a neutral zone. Recovery efforts are currently underway to retrieve his body from the site of the explosion.
