Number of direct flights between Azerbaijani, Iranian cities may increase

The current state and future prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran have been discussed, the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan told Report.

In this context, Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev met with Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadegh.

During the meeting, the sides reviewed the implementation of issues arising from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at the latest session of the State Commission on Economic, Trade, and Humanitarian Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran, as well as the status of ongoing joint projects.

Discussions covered the current level and potential expansion of cooperation in areas such as economy, transport, customs, border management, oil and gas, trade, investment, and humanitarian affairs.

The meeting also addressed the construction progress of the Aghband-Kalaleh bridge along the Araz Corridor and the expansion of the Kalaleh-Julfa road. Satisfaction was expressed regarding the launch of direct flights on the Baku–Tehran–Baku and Baku–Tabriz–Baku routes, in line with instructions from the President of Azerbaijan. The sides exchanged views on increasing the number of flights and resolving existing issues in transit transportation.

Mustafayev also met with Iran's Minister of Energy Abbas Aliabadi to discuss the Khudafarin–Giz Galasi and Ordubad–Marazad projects, as well as cooperation on electricity exchange and the efficient joint use of water resources.
