Minister: Ilham Aliyev's visit to Washington gave impetus to raising relations with US to level of strategic partnership

President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Washington has given impetus to raising Azerbaijan-US relations to the level of strategic partnership, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said at a special government meeting dedicated to the results of the Azerbaijani president's visit to the US, Report informs.

The minister noted that the agreements reached during the visit are another striking example of the victory of President Ilham Aliyev's diplomacy.

"Mutual cooperation is being formed between Azerbaijan and the US. Although these relations significantly weakened during the previous administration, Ilham Aliyev's visit to Washington confirms that Azerbaijan-US relations are entering a new stage. The parties agreed to establish a strategic working group to implement the agreement on the creation of a charter on strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the US, signed by the presidents of the two countries. The strategic working group covers the areas of energy, trade and regional understanding, security and the fight against terrorism, as well as other areas of mutual interest," the head of the foreign ministry added.
