Asip Kaya: Nakhchivan is key trade gateway between Azerbaijan, Türkiye

Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan serves as an important trade gateway between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, according to Asip Kaya, Consul General of Türkiye in Nakhchivan, Report informs.
Speaking to journalists, Kaya emphasized that Nakhchivan is of great importance both economically and culturally.
The diplomat noted that Nakhchivan is Azerbaijan's only region with a land border with Türkiye, which results in a substantial volume of freight traffic.
He added that trucks from Türkiye pass through Nakhchivan to Iran and then onward to Central Asia: "Nakhchivan is extremely important for us in terms of trade-it is Türkiye's gateway to Azerbaijan. Recently, Turkish companies have shown increased interest in the region, and many of our businesspeople are holding meetings here. Notably, major investments are expected in the textile sector."
The Consul General also highlighted the successful results of geological research conducted in Nakhchivan by the General Directorate of Mineral Research & Exploration of Türkiye (MTA). He stated that work is currently underway to develop a mining map of the autonomous republic, and initial findings are highly promising.
He further mentioned plans to release nearly 300,000 carp fish from Türkiye into the Heydar Aliyev Reservoir and Uzunoba Lake.
Asip Kaya stressed the importance of strengthening cultural ties as well: "Mutual visits by theater groups and other cultural ensembles are very important to us. We've taken significant steps in this direction and will continue to do so. Strengthening cultural relations will also positively impact our political, economic, and trade partnerships," the consul said.
