Today, the world is witnessing the beginning of a historic period in terms of security, stability, sustainable peace, and cooperation in the South Caucasus, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov said at a special government meeting dedicated to the historic visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Washington, Report informs.
He noted that after the meeting in Washington, a new stage begins, distinguished by the presence of rich opportunities in the region.
"In particular, the agreement on the opening of a new corridor, in addition to ensuring the exit of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic from the blockade and giving a special impetus to its socio-economic development, simultaneously lays the foundation for regional transport and economic integration. The opening of the corridor is a new and responsible challenge for the Government of Azerbaijan. To this end, it is necessary to work hard on a daily basis at the initial stage," Asadov said.
The prime minister emphasized that this unique route, which will connect Europe with Asia, will completely change the energy and transport map of the region, accelerate trade relations between the countries, and as a result, Azerbaijan as a transit country will increase its export capabilities and will integrate into the global economy faster.
"This process is a very important historical issue for the South Caucasus. Azerbaijan's peace agenda shapes the economic and political future of the region. The South Caucasus, as a whole, will turn into an island of stability. All this has always been a priority of the policy of President Ilham Aliyev, who knows best what and when to do, and who will definitely fulfill his words and promises," Asadov noted.
