La Liga side Sevilla has completed signing of Odysseas Vlachodimos from Newcastle United, joining on loan for the 2025-26 campaign, Report informs via The Athletic.
The 31-year-old goalkeeper joined Newcastle for £20million ($26.9 million) from Nottingham Forest last summer, with Elliot Anderson moving to the City Ground. Those deals came about due to Newcastle’s desperate need to comply with the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) by June 30, 2024.
Vlachodimos was not initially a target for Newcastle back then and does not feature in Eddie Howe’s plans, having made a solitary substitute appearance against AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup across 2024-25.
Sevilla have taken Vlachodimos on a straight loan for the season, which does not contain an option or clause for the Spanish side to buy the Greece international, with Newcastle paying the majority of his wages.
George Caulkin looks ahead to what should be an exciting campaign at St James' Park, despite the gloom of a difficult summer.
Despite Martin Dubravka leaving to join Burnley, Newcastle was keen to find a temporary home for Vlachodimos for the upcoming campaign, following the arrival of Aaron Ramsdale on an initial loan from Southampton.
Ramsdale is set to compete with Nick Pope for the starting goalkeeper jersey at St James’ Park, with John Ruddy and Mark Gillespie providing further back-up as Newcastle return to the Champions League.
