Azerbaijan is calling on neighboring countries and the UN to cooperate more closely on the issue of the shallowing of the Caspian Sea, the region's most dangerous environmental challenge, COP29 President and Azerbaijani Presidential Envoy on Climate Issues Mukhtar Babayev said at the Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW2025), Report informs.
According to him, agriculture and water resources are the sectors most affected by climate change. Babayev also emphasized that the Caspian Sea issue cannot be ignored.
"This is a major environmental challenge that has created significant risks for the ecosystem. Azerbaijan calls on neighboring countries to cooperate more closely on the Caspian Sea and is ready to work closely with the UN on this issue," Babayev said.
The presidential envoy noted that numerous support programs exist for farmers and regional agricultural communities.
The key, he added, is to help farmers address the challenges posed by climate change and ensure they have access to the necessary support.
