Lionel Messi added another milestone to his legendary career during Argentina's 2026 World Cup quarterfinal against Switzerland, becoming the all-time leading assist provider in FIFA World Cup history, Report informs via Diario As.
The Argentina captain delivered a pinpoint corner kick that found the head of Alexis Mac Allister, whose finish gave the defending champions a 1-0 lead.
The assist was Messi's 11th in World Cup history, moving him past Germany great Fritz Walter, who previously held the record with 10.
The achievement also extends Messi's lead over several other legendary players. Raymond Kopa, Uwe Seeler and Diego Maradona are tied next on the all-time list with eight World Cup assists, leaving Messi alone at the top.
