Lake Urmia, located in Iran"s West Azerbaijan Province, has completely dried up.
According to Report, citing Turkish broadcaster TRT, satellite images documenting the disappearance of Lake Urmia - once among the world"s largest saltwater lakes - have been widely circulated in Iranian media.
Iranian officials had previously warned that without effective results from restoration measures, the lake was at risk of drying out by the end of summer.
Despite the launch of a large-scale $6 billion environmental project by Tehran aimed at reviving the lake, prolonged drought conditions across the country have prevented any significant recovery.
