Thailand is facing accelerated urbanization and rapid population aging, which is increasing pressure on the housing system, stated the UN Resident Coordinator in Thailand, Michaela Friberg-Storey, during a panel discussion at WUF13, Report informs.
According to her, by 2030, about 60% of the country's population will be living in cities, while secondary cities, beyond Bangkok, also play a significant role and require separate attention in development policy.
She emphasized that the housing agenda should be considered in the broader context of sustainable development and as a tool for achieving all SDGs.
"We see a society that is aging very rapidly, and this will create new challenges for the housing sector. By 2030, about 60% of Thailand's population will be living in cities," she said.
