Pezeshkian, Guterres discuss Iran's nuclear program

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian discussed Tehran's nuclear program with UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held in China, Report informs via Tasnim News Agency.

The president highlighted that Iran wants to resolve the issue through diplomatic means.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran has delegated the authority to decide on the nature and quality of relations for establishing constructive and effective cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to the country's Supreme National Security Council. Iran continues to strive for cooperation and diplomatic resolution of the issue," Pezeshkian stated.

The UN Secretary-General, in turn, recognized Iran's right to nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

"I believe that you do not intend to create nuclear weapons, and your peaceful nuclear program is your right. I recognize this right," Guterres noted.
