Five killed as torrential rains trigger floods in Afghanistan

At least five people have been killed after torrential rains triggered floods, storms and landslides across Afghanistan, Afghanistan's National Disaster Management Authority said in a statement.

Report informs via Xinhua that the agency's spokesperson, Hafiz Mohammad Yousuf Khammad, said the natural disasters affected the provinces of Kabul, Zabul, Kandahar, Samangan, Takhar, Nangarhar, Laghman, and Kunar over the past 48 hours.

In addition to the fatalities, the severe weather caused extensive damage. Authorities reported that 30 homes were fully or partially destroyed, more than 60 kilometers of rural roads were washed away, and 225 acres of agricultural land were flooded.

According to official statistics, more than 314 people have died and around 400 others have been injured in Afghanistan since late March as a result of heavy rains, flash floods and severe storms.
