The European Union ultimately gave up on plastic utensils after the corresponding law came into force on July 3, European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries Virginijus Sinkevičius tweeted, Report informs.
The EU official noted that the law prohibits the production and sale of single-use plastic plates, cutlery, straws, balloon sticks, cotton buds, cups, food and beverage containers made of expanded polystyrene, and all products made of oxo-degradable plastic.
The bill was adopted by the European Parliament back in 2019. By July 3, all EU countries were required to remove all single-use plastic products from the market.
Since July 1, Azerbaijan has also banned importing, producing, and selling disposable plastic tableware.
