Initial steps taken during building construction contribute to its decarbonization, Aysel Yagubova, Executive Director of the CECECO (Clean Energy Centre for the ECO Region) in Azerbaijan, said during a session held within the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
Yagubova noted that the second measure is the improvement of building envelopes, which is often considered part of modernization and retrofitting to increase energy efficiency: "This includes window insulation, roofing systems, and reducing heat loss. These are high-impact measures, especially important for our region - the ECO region - because the housing stock consists not only of newly built structures but largely of older, Soviet-style buildings."
According to her, the third measure is equipping buildings with rooftop solar panels, decentralized energy systems, regional heating and cooling systems, and smart management elements.
