SPECA Forum of Cities opens in Baku

The Forum of Cities of the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) has opened in Baku, becoming the first specialized platform for intercity cooperation in the region, Anar Guliyev, chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan, said at WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.
He noted that Baku has historically been a crossroads of cultures, ideas, and trade routes connecting East and West.
Guliyev emphasized that the SPECA Forum of Cities was established in Baku in 2024 as part of COP29.
He stated that the new venue is the first specialized platform in the region dedicated to cooperation between cities.
"The forum is based on the 1998 Tashkent Declaration and the 2023 Baku Declaration and aims to strengthen regional cooperation and promote sustainable urban development," he stated.
