The Great Return program is helping to ease the housing burden in Azerbaijan, Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, stated during the dialogue session held within the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
According to Jabbarov, a new stage began in Azerbaijan in 2003: "At that time, the country became economically strong and stable, which allowed the gradual elimination of temporary camps where internally displaced persons and refugees had been settled. Thus, the period from 2003 to 2020 was characterized by these processes. Since 2020, the current stage has been defined mainly by the Great Return process. After more than 30 years, people are finally returning to their native lands. The resettlement of residents to the liberated territories helps reduce the housing burden across the country."
