Container handling capacity along the Middle Corridor will grow to 865,000 TEU by 2040, Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, Head of the Public Relations Department of the Communications Directorate at Azerbaijan Railways, said, according to Report.
He noted that growing trade ties are strengthening the strategic role of the route, and the volume of transport along it is increasing every year.
"According to forecasts by the World Bank, EBRD, and OECD, by 2030, transport along the Middle Corridor will reach 11 million tons, and by 2040, container traffic will amount to 865,000 TEU. Of particular importance in this context is the launch of the Zangazur Corridor (‘Trump Route"), which will not only become a key link of the Middle Corridor but also part of the international North–South transport route. This corridor will create additional opportunities for delivering goods from India and Iran through Azerbaijan to the north. In particular, cargo arriving from Iran will be able to move through Nakhchivan to Türkiye, and further on to Northern Europe," Hajiyev emphasized.
