Azerbaijan ready to raise North-South corridor capacity to 5M tons by 2028

The International North-South Transport Corridor is of great importance to Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said at a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov following bilateral talks in Moscow on Friday, Report informs.
According to Bayramov, all aspects of the development of the Azerbaijani section of the corridor, previously agreed with the Russian side, are being carried out on schedule.
He said that Azerbaijan is ready, if necessary, to increase the corridor's capacity to 5 million tons per year by 2028.
"If all work is completed by the Russian Federation and as work in Iran is finalized, Baku is ready to increase the capacity of its section of the corridor," he said.
Bayramov also highlighted the development of railway infrastructure in Iran's Astara. He said construction of the terminal, financed with Azerbaijani capital, was effectively complete, with readiness estimated at 98%.
The sides are currently working on finalizing procedures for handing over and commissioning the facility, he added.
