- Jeyhun Bayramov speaks on Baku's position in normalizing relations with Yerevan
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov discussed the Azerbaijan–Armenia peace process during talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
According to Report, the discussions took place at a joint press conference with Lavrov on July 17 in Moscow, following bilateral negotiations.
"Today we discussed current issues on the international and regional agenda, with special attention to the situation in the South Caucasus. The 44‑day Patriotic War of the Azerbaijani people created new realities and a new security format in the South Caucasus. This security format is based on the supremacy of international law. I would particularly emphasize the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the inviolability of internationally recognized borders," Bayramov stated.
Bayramov noted that recent historic developments in the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including the initialing of the peace treaty draft, provide a unique opportunity to establish lasting peace, security, and prosperity in the region.
"During the discussions, I informed Sergey Lavrov about the progress of reconstruction in the liberated territories and the return of former internally displaced persons. In the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, it can be confidently said that de facto peace exists today. The positive initiatives we have undertaken, Azerbaijan's peace proposals, including confidence‑building measures, have significantly accelerated normalization and contributed greatly to this process. We are confident that fulfilling the remaining tasks of the peace process will create the necessary conditions for normalization," the Azerbaijani Minister highlighted.
