Implementing full water metering across Azerbaijan will improve water use efficiency, said Aliagha Azizov, Head of the Science and Innovation Division at the State Water Resources Agency (ADSEA), during Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW2025), Report informs.
Azizov highlighted that water losses and leakages persist in both drinking water and irrigation infrastructure:
"One of the goals of the National Water Strategy is to minimize these losses by 2040."
He noted that Azerbaijan plans to install water meters across 100% of drinking water systems. "Comprehensive measures will be taken to eliminate current deficiencies in water infrastructure," Azizov said.
"Full-scale metering will allow users to track their water consumption and will also help reduce losses. This not only ensures efficient water use but also strengthens water security," he added.
Reducing water loss and achieving full metering are key elements of the country's long-term water management goals, with implementation continuing through 2040.
