Azerbaijan joins international transport conference in Greece

Azerbaijan took part in an international conference in Patras, Greece, dedicated to transport connectivity in the Balkan and Black Sea regions, Report informs, citing the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan.

Alish Ismayilov, analyst at the International Transport Forum (ITF) under the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and Azerbaijan's representative to the ITF, delivered a speech during one of the sessions of the event.

He noted that in recent years, global supply chains have faced serious challenges, increasing the importance of alternative and sustainable transport routes between Europe and Asia. In this context, the Middle Corridor is emerging as a strategic, economically efficient, and sustainable link connecting the two continents.

Ismayilov also emphasized that strengthening international connectivity has been one of Azerbaijan's key priorities during its ITF chairmanship in 2025–2026. He added that the Middle Corridor has held a special place on the organization's agenda, and discussions on this topic are expected to continue in the future.

During the speech, reference was made to the OECD and ITF report Unlocking the Potential of the Middle Corridor, which identifies priorities such as enhancing regional economic integration, simplifying border and transit procedures, increasing investment in port and railway infrastructure, and expanding cooperation between the public and private sectors.

At the end, it was announced that the ITF's 2026–2027 Work Program will include new studies on efficiency and digitalization of freight transport, with member states and partner organizations invited to collaborate.
