Cuba intends to actively utilize the advanced international experience presented at the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku for the further modernization and sustainable development of its urban environment, Antonio Corbelo said during a panel discussion at WUF13, according to Report.
"We are confident that a better world is possible, and despite any restrictions, we will continue to move forward confidently in the development of our cities," the speaker emphasized.
According to him, Havana continues to implement programs to provide the population with basic services and modernize infrastructure, even while facing severe economic challenges. The state has focused on developing alternative programs, including the installation of solar panels and the efficient use of other renewable energy sources.
Corbelo emphasized that thanks to the support of friendly countries, Cuba has managed to ensure energy supply to the most vulnerable communities and critical infrastructure facilities. "Electricity is provided to hospitals, polyclinics, and other institutions delivering vital services to the population," the Cuban representative said.
Furthermore, according to him, special attention is given to supporting socially vulnerable categories of the population. Among the main beneficiaries of this program are large families (with three or more children), single mothers, orphaned children, children with disabilities, as well as people requiring constant home medical care.
The Cuban representative also reported on the implementation of a large-scale state program in the water supply sector, designed to guarantee uninterrupted delivery of drinking water to areas with the highest levels of vulnerability.
Corbelo added that all social initiatives in Cuba are tightly coordinated with one another, particularly in the segment of housing construction and the development of areas experiencing problems with access to basic services.
