World champion arrested in Azerbaijan

World and European champion Khayyam Safikhanov was detained by Sabunchu District Police Department.
Report informs that during the search, 5,012 grams of heroin, 0.072 grams of methapitamine and 2,475 grams of tramadol were found with the athlete.
Safikhanov was charged under Article 234.4.3 of the Criminal Code (illegal production, acquisition, storage, transportation, or sale of drugs, psychotropic substances, or their precursors in large quantities).
According to the decision of the Sabunchu District Court, Safikhanov was remanded in custody.
The press service of the Interior Ministry confirmed the fact to Report.
Safikhanov was a world and European champion in grappling and other sports. He was previously imprisoned.
