Armenian-origin resident detained in Khankendi after armed resistance to police

On September 14, 2025, Armenian-origin resident of Khankendi, 58-year-old Karen Albertovich Avanesyan, was detained while attempting to approach a public event with hidden weapons, Report informs, citing the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the MIA's statement, Avanesyan had earlier concealed a Kalashnikov rifle, four magazines with cartridges, and five grenades in a nearby forest. When intercepted by police, he resisted by throwing three hand grenades and opening fire.
He was wounded by return fire and captured. One police officer was injured during the operation.
The Prosecutor General's Office and the State Security Service have launched a criminal case and continue investigative measures.
