Brett King: AI to soon surpass human intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) will soon surpass human intelligence; for the first time in history, humanity is faced with an alternative intelligence capable of competing with humans, futurologist and host of the Breaking Banks podcast Brett King said on the sidelines of the VIII Astana Finance Days forum, answering a question from Report.

According to him, AI is perhaps the most powerful destructive force for human civilization and our economic systems.

"It is a radical game changer and a transformative force for our way of life. The only other factor that can have a comparable impact on society is, perhaps, climate change. However, AI will change society in ways that we cannot even imagine today, and it will do so much faster than we expected," King emphasized.

The futurologist noted that when talking about computing power and how computers have affected society, we often refer to Moore's Law - a principle formulated by Gordon Moore, co-founder of Intel Corporation in the 1960s.

"According to it, computer performance should double every two years. But today, AI increases its capabilities tenfold over the same period. This means that artificial intelligence will soon surpass human intelligence - and for the first time in history, we are faced with an alternative intelligence that can compete with humans. There are still many questions regarding the impact of AI on society. But there is hope that it (AI) will become the greatest tool that humanity has ever had," the expert added.
