Azerbaijan's State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control under the President has approved the appeal of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) to provide internet services for passengers on new-generation aircraft, Report informs referring to the State Agency.
The decision was made following an investigation conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Competition Code, which provide for oversight of certain actions by natural monopolies.
The investigation included an analysis of contracts and other legal documents related to the provision of internet services on board aircraft. As a result, the State Agency approved Azerbaijan Airlines' application, provided that the internet service is provided solely at the passenger's discretion.
In response to Report's inquiry, AZAL stated that the new service will provide internet connection via Viasat satellite communications technology.
Passengers will be able to enjoy unlimited high-speed internet during their flights at affordable prices.
Business Class passengers, as well as Elite and Platinum members of the AZAL Miles loyalty program, will be able to use the in-flight internet service free of charge. It will be necessary to simply enter the first name, last name, and seat number on the internet connection portal.
Through the internet connection portal, passengers can also connect to the in-flight entertainment system at no additional charge and enjoy movies, music, and other digital content.
The in-flight internet service is currently available on AZAL's new-generation Airbus A320neo and Airbus A321neo aircraft. In the future, this service will be available to passengers on all new-generation aircraft that will join the fleet.
