Speaker: Serbia plans to sign new gas agreement with Azerbaijan in near future

Serbia plans to soon sign a new gas agreement with Azerbaijan and a contract for the joint implementation of a gas-fired power plant project near the city of Nis, Serbian National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic said at a joint briefing in Baku with Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova, Report informs.
Brnabic emphasized that Azerbaijan is the most reliable energy supplier: "We intend to sign a new gas agreement between Azerbaijan and Serbia in the near future."
She noted that one example of cooperation will be a gas-fired power plant to be built in Niš with joint investment from Azerbaijan and Serbia: "The cost of this project is up to 600 million euros. I note that the relevant ministries have completed work on the contract, and we expect it to be signed soon."
The speaker also stated that trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Serbia has increased 28-fold over the past five years, from $20 million to $560 million.
