Mexico mayor: WUF13 decisions hold global significance

Decisions made by local governments at WUF13 carry greater significance than the world has yet fully realized, Clara Brugada, Mayor of Mexico City and President of the upcoming WUF14 in 2028, said during the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments at the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, according to Report.

She emphasized that the future of cities will either be shaped by solutions developed by local governments or not at all: "The crises of our time know no borders or scale. Climate emergencies, housing shortages, inequality, and various forms of violence affect both urban and rural areas."

Brugada highlighted the importance of collective experience: "When we gather at this assembly, we share the knowledge of thousands of governments that truly govern, truly solve problems, and truly listen. This collective experience, united in a common voice, has the power to change the lives of millions of people worldwide."
