African Union Commission chairperson receives invitation to WUF13

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has sent an invitation to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, regarding participation in the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum and the Leaders' Summit in Baku in May 2026.
According to Report, the invitation was presented on behalf of the head of state by Ambassador Elchin Amirbayov, Special Envoy of the President of Azerbaijan.
Today, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission received Ambassador Elchin Amirbayov.
Their meeting underscored the commitment to strengthen AU–Azerbaijan cooperation, including through a prospective framework agreement to deepen strategic ties.
The chairperson welcomed Azerbaijan's comparative advantages in digital innovation, public service transformation, trade facilitation, and advanced connectivity; areas that align closely with Africa's development priorities and the AU's reform agenda.
Amirbayov reaffirmed Azerbaijan's growing engagement across Africa, recognizing the continent's vast potential, and commended Youssouf's leadership, expressing his country's readiness to partner with the AU Commission in cooperation.
During the visit, the Azerbaijani President's special envoy also met with Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie. According to the Ethiopian leader's office, the parties discussed prospects for expanding cooperation between Baku and Addis Ababa, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and agriculture.
