Joint Declaration regarding Caspian Sea adopted in Belem

Joint Declaration on strengthening cooperation on Caspian Sea level decline has been adopted.
Report informs that the document was adopted within the framework of a high-level event dedicated to the Caspian Sea water level decline at the Azerbaijan pavilion during COP30 held in Belem, Brazil.
The Declaration emphasizes that the Caspian littoral countries continue their previous commitments on this issue, referring to the Baku Declaration adopted in Baku last year within the framework of COP29.
It is stated that the Baku Declaration established a foundation for scientific cooperation, information exchange, and coordinated activities, while the new Joint Declaration adopted at COP30 serves to further strengthen efforts in this direction.
The document expresses aims to strengthen cooperation in the fields of scientific research, monitoring, and information exchange. Additionally, the document reflects a shared intention to work jointly with the UN system and promote projects, as well as take joint steps to ensure sustainable development and long-term sustainability of the Caspian region.
The event was organized on the initiative of the Azerbaijani side with the COP29 Presidency, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, and the Interim Secretariat of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea (Tehran Convention).
