Shahbazov: Existing energy networks not fully ready for rising electricity demand

Global electricity demand is growing rapidly due to the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and data centers, while existing energy networks are not fully prepared for this growth, Azerbaijan's Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said at the 31st Baku Energy Forum.

According to Report, he said issues of energy security, climate, technological innovation, and rising demand are shaping the global energy agenda.

The minister noted that the energy transition is not only an environmental process but also a strategic direction affecting economic sustainability and geopolitical stability.

He emphasized that the key challenge is not only increasing generation capacity, including renewable energy sources, but also ensuring that grid infrastructure is ready to absorb and integrate growing electricity volumes. He also highlighted the importance of investment and access to financial resources for enabling the energy transition.
