Gio Cristofoli: Azerbaijan can remain a global energy hub for decades

Azerbaijan has the potential to maintain its status as one of the world's leading energy hubs for decades to come, Giovanni Cristofoli, Regional President of BP for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye, said at the 31st Baku Energy Forum.

Report quotes Cristofoli as saying the Caspian Basin is one of the world's largest hydrocarbon regions. Speaking about Azerbaijan's potential, he emphasized that the country has developed world-class infrastructure.

"This includes offshore facilities, drilling platforms, the Sangachal Terminal, and a pipeline system that truly enables the diversification of export routes to Western markets. This infrastructure is 99% reliable, one of the highest performance levels in the industry. Thanks to the country's leadership, a genuinely favorable business environment has been created here. The very fact that this large-scale forum is being held demonstrates how the country continues to attract business and investment," Cristofoli said.

He also highlighted Azerbaijan's strong human capital.

"We are gradually turning Baku into a new Houston or a new Aberdeen. Our specialists in drilling, subsurface geology, commercial operations and engineering not only support our business here, but also contribute to many of the company's activities worldwide, both in upstream and downstream operations," the BP representative noted.

Cristofoli stressed that Azerbaijan's combination of abundant resources, advanced infrastructure, and highly skilled professionals positions the country to remain a key player in the global energy sector for many years to come.
