Ranalder: New climate plans could help increase city-level financing

New national climate plans, known as NDC 3.0, can help increase financing at the city level and ensure more effective implementation of climate measures for local communities.

Report informs that Lea Ranalder, a member of UN-Habitat's climate change and urban environment team, said this at a press conference dedicated to UN-Habitat's new report on the urban component of national climate plans, "Urban Content in NDC 3.0: Cities in Focus," held as part of WUF13 in Baku.

According to her, the document creates an opportunity to more closely link national goals with action at the city level, where most climate solutions are actually implemented.

"Cities play a key role in implementing the climate agenda, since national and international commitments are put into practice at the local level," she said.

She noted that one of the key expected outcomes is increased financing at the municipal level, as well as stronger cooperation between national and local authorities.

"This will make it possible to deliver climate measures to citizens more effectively and ensure their practical implementation in communities," she added.
