Ilyas Demirci: Cities must be spaces of safe living

Cities must be spaces of safe living, Turkish expert Ilyas Demirci, Chairman of the Union of Engineers and Architects of the Turkic World (TDMMB), said during an event held within the framework of World Urban Forum 13 in Baku.

Report quotes him as saying the Union of Engineers and Architects of the Turkic World considers it fundamentally important that cities be planned with the interests of future generations in mind.

"Cities must be spaces of safe living, preservation of natural resources, and the provision of a sustainable quality of life," he said.

Demirci also emphasized that WUF13 is of particular importance because the discussions are focused on the future of cities, safe living environments, environmental sensitivity, and the principles of sustainable urban development.
