Azerbaijan's spending on charcoal imports increasing

In the first half of 2023, Azerbaijan imported wood and wood products (charcoal) for $200.1 million, 20.7% more year-on-year, Report informs, citing the country’s State Customs Committee.
The value of exports of wood and wood products in Azerbaijan for the reporting period amounted to $1.4 million, which is 39.7% less than a year ago.
Import expenditures on wood and wood products (charcoal) amounted to 2.4% of Azerbaijan's total import expenditures, and export earnings made 0.01% of the country's total export earnings.
In January-June 2023, Azerbaijan carried out trade operations with foreign countries in the amount of $26.166 billion - 5.4% more than in the same period last year.
Of the 6-month foreign trade turnover, exports reached $17.968 billion, while imports amounted to $8.198 billion. Over the past year, exports decreased by 2.8%, but imports increased by 29%.
Ultimately, the foreign trade surplus amounted to $9.769 billion - 19.4% less than a year ago.
