Pashinyan admits previous security instruments were erroneous

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has acknowledged the fallacy of the idea that the army and military-political alliances are the main instruments for reducing the vulnerability of the country's external security, Report informs referring to Armenian media.

He was speaking at the international conference "Comprehensive Security and Resilience 2025."

"But history has shown that this formula did not work - neither in the first nor in the second case. Moreover, in the first case - even three times. The CSTO noted that it considers Azerbaijan to be the same fraternal country as Armenia, and recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan," he noted.

He emphasized that one of the most important institutions - legitimacy, which subsequently became the basis of the national security strategy - was excluded from the key instruments for ensuring security.

"On October 6, 2022, an extremely important conversation took place in Prague, where we relied on the Almaty Declaration, a turning point occurred there. Armenia and Azerbaijan declared their readiness to recognize each other's territorial integrity on the basis of this declaration," he noted.

He added that it was this moment that became a turning point and led to Yerevan revising its entire security strategy.
