OSCE Friends of Georgia reaffirm support on war anniversary

The 17th anniversary of the 2008 Russia–Georgia war was discussed during a session of the OSCE Permanent Council, Georgia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, Report informs via GPB.

The OSCE Friends of Georgia Group issued a statement reaffirming strong support for the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The statement emphasized unwavering backing for Georgia within its internationally recognized borders. The group called on the Russian Federation to fully comply with its obligations under the 2008 ceasefire agreement, withdraw its forces to pre-conflict positions, and revoke its recognition of the "independence" of Georgia's separatist regions.

The group also reiterated support for the Geneva International Discussions as the sole platform for peaceful conflict resolution and highlighted the EU Monitoring Mission's contribution to regional stability.

The declaration was endorsed by the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Poland, the Baltic and Scandinavian countries, Ukraine, and other partners.
