Iran pledges to comply with nuclear deal if sanctions lifted

Tehran is committed to complying with the terms of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program if Western sanctions are lifted, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami said, Report informs via TASS.

“Iran does not carry out any activities that are not known to the IAEA. Above all, we are guided by the law on strategic measures to lift sanctions, so Iran will comply with all provisions of the JCPOA if restrictions are lifted,” IRNA news agency quotes Eslami as saying. “We work according to the rules of the IAEA, which controls all our activities,” he emphasized.

In 2015, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with Iran, aimed at overcoming the crisis surrounding Tehran’s nuclear developments. The document provided for the gradual lifting of sanctions in exchange for Iran's commitment to limit its nuclear activities. The previous US President Donald Trump decided in 2018 to withdraw from this agreement. Current American leader Joe Biden has repeatedly signaled his readiness to return Washington to the nuclear deal.

Russia, the UK, Germany, China, the United States and France have been negotiating with Iran in Vienna since April 2021 on restoring the JCPOA to its original form. On November 10, 2022, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that the next round of negotiations with representatives of the Islamic Republic ended in the Austrian capital without any result.
