Iran carries out border controls against hantavirus

Border controls against hantavirus are being carried out in Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran.

Report informs, citing Khabar Foori, that Mehrdad Sharifi, health deputy at Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences, said there was full and comprehensive preparedness and no particular concern.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a press conference after meeting Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez that there were currently no signs of the start of a wider spread of the Andes strain of hantavirus.

At the same time, the first case of hantavirus infection has been recorded in Spain.

According to the WHO, Azerbaijan is not considered an endemic region for hantavirus, and the virus is not found among rodents living in the country.
