Brother of newly appointed Armenian ambassador to US detained for drug possession

Mkrtych Mkrtchyan, brother of the former minister of the Constitutional Court and now appointed Ambassador of Armenia to the US Narek Mkrtchyan, was detained at night in Parakar on suspicion of drug possession, Report informs referring to Armenian media.

The incident occurred when police stopped a car in which Mkrtchyan and his friend were traveling.

The latter, upon seeing the police, immediately fled, and drugs and a weapon were found in his bag.

Mkrtchyan was detained.

The state bodies of Armenia have not yet provided official comments regarding the detention.
