Today, nearly 117 million people are forcibly displaced, Barham Salih, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, said at an event held within the framework of WUF13 dedicated to the topic "Housing as the Foundation of Crisis Recovery and Reconstruction," as quoted by Report.
"Today, nearly 117 million people have been forcibly displaced due to conflicts, violence, and persecution, while climate shocks are only intensifying the risks of displacement," he said.
