Xi Jinping: China stands for strengthening mutual trust with EU

China and the European Union should strengthen ties, mutual trust and deepen cooperation in the context of an ambiguous international situation, Chinese President Xi Jinping said at a meeting with Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro in Beijing, Report informs via TASS.

"The more chaotic and confusing the international situation becomes, the more China and the EU should strengthen ties and mutual trust, and increase cooperation. We hope that Portugal will adhere to the position of China-EU partnership, promote the sustainable, stable and healthy development of China-EU relations," the Chinese leader said.

According to Xi Jinping, the world is now entering a period of upheaval and change again.

"China is ready for close multilateral cooperation with Portugal, jointly promote genuine multilateralism, protect the authority of the UN, the free trade system and promote the creation of a fairer and more reasonable global governance system," the Chinese leader said.

The Portuguese prime minister is in China from September 8 to 10.
